Career Consultant Corner

Hey There!

Thanks for allowing me to partner with you on your career journey AGAIN this week. I know, by faith, that you are getting closer and closer to your goal! As I mentioned in my video this week, God may be nudging YOU concerning “that thing” I can honestly say, “my God thing” was a stretch for me, and it always is.  I know what you are thinking. I am going to answer your unspoken question, yes, there has been more than one nudging over the years. God is growing us from glory to glory.

I tell myself often that God is more concerned about my growth into who He created me to be, than He is my comfort. I will admit any stretch is a risk, but if God is leading us, we can rest assured He has a perfect plan where we come out in a great place!  God will continue to nudge us, but He will not force it. With every great man or women of faith, they had to “accept the invitation” (Queen Ester, Mary, Moses, even Gideon). I encourage you, just as I encourage myself, it’s worth the stretch when you think of the amazing things these great people of faith did. They were ordinary people just like you and me, that agreed with God to be used to do something extraordinary. NOW, how about you?

Have a Prosperous Week!

1. Know your skills and strengths

Be sensitive to what God may be leading you to do. Pay close attention to your strengths. Our work will not feel as much like work when it comes with ease for us. God gave us all-natural talent, do not be afraid to add those to your skills and strengths. Those skills may be marketable. Develop a good list of what you can do and what you want to do in your next job.

A detailed inventory of your natural God given talents, work-related strengths and job skills will help you to target your job search efficiently and effectively by matching your abilities to relevant job opportunities, and companies (or entrepreneur opportunities).

2. Be proactive and make it happen

Procrastination can sabotage your job search strategy. Don’t allow fear, or distractions to cause you to miss a “window of opportunity”. God certainly does “open doors” for us that no man can shut, however, I have also seen Him provide us with “windows of opportunity”. With those windows, they occasional have a “Blessing season” that will not wait for you to get moving. A great example of this would be the pool of Bethesda. There was a certain time that healing was available. John 5:4(4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool and troubled the water. Whosoever then first stepped in, after the troubling of the water, was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.) You can take these simple steps to overcome your procrastination and motivate yourself to get out there and make it happen.

3. Do some research

If you recall on the main Career Corner page, I shared my own testimony of being out of Career Services for ten years working as an Executive Manager and when I returned to my second passion almost everything had changed. I could not help college students with their job search if I did not have now relevant information. Be sensitive to what God may be leading you to do, but also read books, and review some credible YouTube experts in your area of interest to do research on what you feel may be your next big step. The bible says my people perish for the lack of knowledge. God expects us to add His SUPER with our Natural effort to create SUPER-NATURAL results.
